Interim Evaluation

The development of my music video is coming along well. We started with a variety of ideas that danced through each music video genre, which we found a challenge as we wanted to mainly focus on editing the music video correctly. From looking a previous music videos we wanted to avoid using mainly performance and narrative as the focus of our music video as this was a key theme through all music videos. From researching the music genre our song was in we decided to challenge ourselves to execute the spectacle of the music video which would again allow us to develop the editing of the piece as this is not regularly used.
When creating the storyboard we looked closely at the lyrics of the song as from previously studying Goodwin's rules we decided that the visual should relate to the lyrics. Key words that stood out were 'stuck in the same gear', 'vitamins' along with 'salts and supplements'. This encouraged us to create the spectacle with narrative along this basis. I first found this a great idea as we were using the lyrics of the song within the storyline of the music video. However when we came to storyboard our idea this proved a challenge as we had too many ideas that we didn't feel connected to the lyrics.
This meant that when we came to film we didn't really have a set idea. When I looked back at the storyboard I realised that we were trying to incorporate too many ideas into one, so to overcome this I reconvened with my group for us to clarify what our idea was.
After we had eventually come up with the idea the filming process was long and strenuous. This was a challenge as my group and I were not free around the same time to be able to film. This lead to detailed planning and organising of when we were going to film.
Overall I feel that our music video is coming along well. Now that we are all clear on the genre of music video as well as the idea behind the video it is a case of moving on and finish filming so that we can spend more time on the editing.
